Zero Z's

Materials Needed:
Paint
Paint brush
Paint trays
Z's cut from card stock (or thick paper)

Directions:
Pass out Z's to each child (or have a helper pass them out for you)
Allow the children to paint zeros on their Z's

Five Little Zinnias

Five little zinnias,
Growing outside my door.
I picked one for Grandma,
Now there are four.

Four little zinnias,
The pretties I've seen.
I picked one for Grandpa,
Now there are three.

Three little zinnias,
Just a lovely few.
I picked one for Mommy,
Now there are two.

Two little zinnias,
Reaching for the sun.
I picked one for Daddy,

Y Snack

Have the children sit down for a yogurt snack
You could have flavored or plain yogurt and put fruit inside it
They could also help in making yogurt bites with spoonfuls on a tray and placing them in the freezer
It's a great snack for the warm weather

Yarn Y's

Materials Needed:
Yellow paint
Paint brushes
Paint trays
Y's cut from card stock (or thick paper)

Directions:
Pass out Y's to each child (or have a helper pass them out for you)
Allow the children to paint all over their Y's

Allow the children to glue their q-tips all over their X's to make an x-ray

Form X's with popsicle sticks or tooth picks
Draw X's with sidewalk chalk outside

Directions:
Pass out V's to each child (or have a helper pass them out for you)
Allow the children to paint their V's with the violet paint

Veggie Snacks

Provide different vegetables for the children to try.
This could include carrots, celery, radishes, snap peas, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.
You could work together to make vegetable dip, such as plain yogurt and ranch powder mix.

Materials Needed:
Unifix cubes
Paint trays
U's cut from card stock (or thick paper)

Directions:
Pass out U's to each child (or have a helper pass them out for you)
Allow the children to stamp the unifix cubes in the paint and decorate their U's

My Umbrella

My umbrella goes up (raise arms high, fingers touching above head)
And I go under,
Whenever I hear
The sound of thunder.

It is wild and windy (move raised arms back and forth)
See the weather vane.
My umbrella is pulling
With the blowing rain.

Now it is still (hold raised arms in place)
And I see the sun.
Down comes my umbrella (lower arms to sides)
Time now for fun!

Tea Party

You could have the children help make little sandwiches and have a "tea" party or juice party together. You could fill a tea pot with tomato juice instead of tea and have sandwiches that are cut into triangles.

Directions:

Sand Tray Pre-Writing

Materials Needed:
Shallow tray
Sand
Cards with letter written

Directions:
Pour the sand in the tray.
Create cards with letters written on them.
Place the sand tray and cards in a larger tray and place on a low shelf in the classroom.
Show the children how to write lightly with their finger in the sand.
Show the children how to lightly shake the tray to erase what they wrote.

Silly S Song

I'll sing a silly S song for you.

Materials Needed:

Directions:
Pass out R's to each child (or have a helper pass them out for you)
Allow the children to glue ribbon all over their R's

Rain Sensory Bottle

Materials Needed:
Large bottle
Baby oil
Water
Blue beads
Hot glue gun
Glitter

Directions:
Create the sensory bottle by adding equal parts water and baby oil to the large bottle.
Add in the blue beads and glitter.
Hot glue the lit on to prevent the bottle from opening.
As the children are playing with the bottle, ask about what they are seeing and talk about rain with them.

Make Your Own Rain Gauge

Materials Needed:
Large empty plastic bottle
Scissors or box cutter (for teacher)
Black permanent marker
Measuring tools (ruler or tape measure)

Directions:
Prepare the rain gauge with the children.
Cut off the top of the plastic bottle.
Have the children measure and create a line around the bottle in regular intervals using measuring tools and the marker.
Flip the top of the bottle and place it back inside the rain gauge to act as a funnel.
As it rains, encourage the children to practice their math skills by estimating what the level will be at that day, measuring, and counting.
Children can keep a log of the change in water over a week.

Allow the children to glue quinoa all over their Q's

I Like Q

Q is for queen with a crown on her head,
Q is for quilt that covers my bed.
Q is for questions I like asking,
Q is for ducklings' quack-quack-quacking.
Q is for quarter and quick and quill,
I like Q and I always will.

Quill Pens

Show the children what a quill looks like with one that you made.
Allow the children to cut the tips of feathers or cut it for them.
Show them how to dip their feather into some ink and write with it.

Make Your Own Quilt

Provide each child with a piece of thick paper, glue, and pieces of fabric cut into squares.
Encourage the children to make their own "quilt" by gluing the squares of fabric to the pieces of paper.

More Q Fun

Find the queens in a deck of cards.
Examine quarters with a magnifying glass.
Quack the number of times that are shown on a number card.
Cut food into quarters (apples, pie, oranges, etc.).
