Materials:
  • Bubble wrap
  • Tape
  • Plastic or wooden hammers (like those used with play dough)
  • Carpeted area or outdoor space
Procedure:
  1. Introduction: Begin the lesson by discussing the activity. Explain to the students how this activity will help them build their muscles while having fun.
  2. Preparation: Tape bubble wrap on a carpeted area or outside. Make sure the bubble wrap is securely taped down to prevent it from moving during the activity.
  3. Hammer Time!: Distribute the plastic or wooden hammers to the students. Instruct them to use the hammers to pop the bubbles on the bubble wrap. Encourage them to try different techniques and observe which method works best for popping the bubbles.
  4. Discussion and Cool Down: After the activity, gather the students and discuss their experience. Ask them how they felt during the activity and what they learned. This is also a good time for a cool-down period to help the students relax their muscles after the activity.
Assessment:
  • Observe the child's reaction to popping the bubble wrap. Did they use the hammer to pop or their hands? Did this activity promote large muscle movements?
Note:  Please provide appropriate supervision to the children in your care when completing all activities. You will need to decide what types of activities are safe for the children in your care.  Appropriate and reasonable caution should be used when providing art and sensory experiences for children.  Toddlers require special caution, only use non-toxic materials, and do not allow toddlers to put things in their mouths that are a choking hazard.
