Objectives:  

Children will:

• develop sensory motor skill.
• practice organizing and sorting objects.
• develop small motor skills.

Lucky Day Sensory Bin

CDA Competency Standard:   

II.5.2a

• Materials and equipment stimulate children’s thinking and problem-solving
  • ​​​a) Materials and equipment provide a variety of opportunities for cognitive development

Materials: 

• Lucky Charms cereal
• large sensory bin
• children's tweezers
• small cups

Procedure: 

• Place the cereal, cups and tweezers in the sensory bin.
• Introduce it to the children.
• As they are playing, ask them open-ended questions to prompt them to explain their thinking. 

Assessment: 

• Observe and record the children’s sorting skills. How did they decide to organize the marshmallows? By shape? By color?
  
• Record the children’s fine motor skills as well. Were they able to manipulate and control the tweezers?  ​
