  4. Paint around the outside edge of the paper plate for the skin.
  5. Layer construction paper cutouts for the flesh, seeds, and stem.
  6. Add labels to each part to connect learning to real-world observation.
Extensions:
  • Compare real apples with your craft—where do the parts match?
  • Let children color-code different apple varieties in their artwork.
  • Set up a simple apple taste-test after crafting—sweet vs. tart flavors!
Assessment:
  • Observe and record the child's understanding of the parts of an apple.
  • Did the child learn new words related to apples?
Note:  Please provide appropriate supervision to the children in your care when completing all activities. You will need to decide what types of activities are safe for the children in your care.  Appropriate and reasonable caution should be used when providing art and sensory experiences for children.  Toddlers require special caution, only use non-toxic materials, and do not allow toddlers to put things in their mouths that are a choking hazard.
