Lego Stamped Corn

Lego Stamped Corn

Age Group:
Preschool
* Lesson plan objectives and assessments can be adapted to use this activity with toddlers
Objectives:  
Children will:
  • share about their artwork.
  • practice the fine motor skills of cutting and stamping.
CDA Competency Standard:   
II.7.4b
  • Candidate promotes individual expression and creativity
    • ​​b) Facilitates child-directed and process-oriented creative experiences

Materials: 
  • Lego blocks
  • yellow and brown construction paper
  • brown paint
  • scissors 
Procedure: 
  • Show the children how to use the Lego block as a stamp on the yellow paper.
  • Give them time to explore the new art technique.
  • Allow the paint to dry.
  • Show the children how to cut the paper into a corn-like shape.
  • Show them how to cut and glue husks using the brown construction paper.
**If adapting this lesson for toddlers, you will need to cut out the corn for the children. You can use edible paint as well.
Assessment: 
  • Observe and record the children’s fine motor skills. How are their cutting skills developing? What did they have to say about their artwork as well as the process for creating?
