Scarecrow Song and Memory Craft

Objectives:
Children will:
- react to song by moving their arms, legs, or making facial expressions.
- develop musical abilities.
- develop vocabulary.

Materials:
- washable paint
- paper
- straw
- googley eyes
- black marker
Procedure:
- Begin the activity by finding a comfortable place to sing with the children.
- Sing the following song to the children:
Sung to: "Teddy Bear, Teddy bear turn around"
“Scarecrow, Scarecrow, turn around.
Scarecrow, scarecrow, jump up and down
Scarecrow, scarecrow, arms up high
Scarecrow, Scarecrow, wink one eye
Scarecrow, scarecrow, bend your knee
Scarecrow, scarecrow, flap in the breeze
Scarecrow, scarecrow, climb into bed
Scarecrow, scarecrow, rest your head”
“Scarecrow, Scarecrow, turn around.

- When finished, create the memory craft by painting the palm, middle fingers and outer fingers different colors.
- Print them onto the paper and allow it to dry.
- Add the straw, googley eyes, and create a face using the black marker.
Assessment:
- Observe and record the children’s reaction to the music. Did they move any parts of their body or make any facial expressions? Take detailed notes during the activity and send them home with the memory craft for families to review.
