Apple Stamping

Apple Stamping
Lesson plan developed by Ms. Erika Geelhoed, BA Ed
Age Group:
Toddlers
* Lesson plan objective and assessment can be adapted to use this activity with preschoolers and school-age children.
Objectives:  
Children will:
  • create a piece of artwork using the stamping technique.
  • practice proper hand washing procedures.
CDA Competency Standard:   
II.7.4b
  • Candidate promotes individual expression and creativity
    • ​​​b) Facilitates child-directed and process-oriented creative experiences
I.2.3a
  • Candidate encourages children to practice healthy habits
    • ​​​a) Ensures that children wash hands properly, with assistance when needed
Apple Stamping
Apple Stamping

Materials: 
  • apples (cut in half)
  • paint
  • paper
Procedure: 
  • Prepare for activity by setting out materials in an appropriate area.
  • Invite children to create with you.
  • Show them how to stamp using the apple and paint.
  • Allow children to try stamping on their own.
  • When finished, wash hands with the children.
  • Be sure to talk with them about the correct sequence of washing as you are assisting them as well as the purpose of doing so.
Assessment: 
  • Observe and record children as they are creating. How did they do with the stamping technique? How did they react to the steps of hand washing? 
Note: Please provide appropriate supervision to the children in your care when completing all activities. You will need to decide what types of activities are safe for the children in your care. Appropriate and reasonable caution should be used when providing art and sensory experiences for children. Toddlers require special caution, only use non-toxic materials, and do not allow toddlers to put things in their mouths that are a choking hazard. ​​​

To find he has wings of beauty
Changed into a butterfly. (fly with arms)

Then into the oven to bake. (pretend to put in oven)
Here is your cake so nice and round (arms round)
Let’s frost it pink and white. (frosting motion)
And put _____ candles on it (hold up fingers for age of child)
To make a birthday light
Hold up a candle and make a good wish,
Wish 1, 2, 3, blow!
______ is ____ years old today,
Wish him the best you know.
