Student-Led Preschool Programs
At the very beginning of the school year Rebecca Flores asks parents and students what they want to learn. From there, she learns with her students, accommodating and adjusting as needed throughout their exploration of various topics. If her students didn’t have an interest in ocean life, they may not stay involved, engaged, and motivated at all for that unit of study. Instead, by asking her students and their parents what they are interested in, she immediately catches their attention and holds it when learning these subjects and ideas. What’s more is that her genuine concern and care for their interests show the children and their families that she is invested in their learning right along with them. She becomes a facilitator combining the academic needs of her students with their interests. Throughout the school year, the focus will change depending upon the interests of her students, driving and leading their learning.
