Christmas Cutting Tray

Objectives:  

Children will:

• practice the fine motor skill of cutting.

CDA Competency Standard:   

II.4.2a

• Activities and materials encourage children of varying abilities to develop their small muscles
  • a) Individual fine motor skills are encouraged through a variety of developmentally appropriate skills

Materials: 

• cutting materials (wrapping paper, string, ribbon, bows, etc.)
• scissors
• divider tray

Procedure: 

• ​Place all of the cutting materials into the tray
• Place the tray in an appropriate area for cutting (it may get messy!)
• Encourage the children to practice cutting the different items

Assessment: 

• Observe and record the children’s fine motor skills. How are their cutting skills developing? Did they struggle or need assistance?

Reindeer Hand Prints

This is a very cute way to mark the size of a child's hand. We made brown hand prints, then allowed them to dry. Once dry, we glued on wiggly eyes and a red pompom.
