Hop on Pop Sight Word Jump

Materials:
- Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss (available from Amazon - see below)
- yellow paper
- black marker
- contact paper
Dr. Seuss Books Available from Amazon
Procedure:
- Prepare for the activity by creating the paper sight or “popcorn” words.
- Use the contact paper to stick the words to the floor.
- Read Hop on Pop with the children.
- Encourage the children to practice saying the popcorn words as they jump.
- You can rotate the different sight words as the weeks progress.
Assessment:
- Observe and record the children’s gross motor skills. Were they able to jump from sight word to sight word while saying the word orally? What words did they struggle with? Be sure to review these with them.
