Objectives:

a) Materials, equipment and activities provided help children experience working and playing in harmony   

Starry Night Mural (Europe)

Materials: 

• mural sized butcher paper
• wall
• pencil
• colorful strips of paper
• glue sticks
• pictures of Van Gogh’s Starry Night painting

Procedure: 

• Familiarize children with Van Gogh’s Starry Night painting.
• Explain who he was and where he was from.
• Here is a great resource: The Van Gogh Gallery
• Secure the butcher paper to the wall and draw the swirly outlines of the elements in the Starry Night painting. I
• n the sections write the names of the colors.
• Invite children to work together as a group to glue the colorful strips onto the mural.   

Assessment: 

• Observe and record children’s collaboration and cooperative learning experience.

You will need to decide what types of activities are safe for the children in your care.  Appropriate and reasonable caution should be used when providing art and sensory experiences for children. Infants and toddlers require special precaution, only use non-toxic materials, and do not allow young children to put things in their mouths that are a choking hazard. ​​​​​​
