Touch and Feel Sensory Hearts

Objectives:  

Children will:

• develop sensory motor skill.
• be introduced to new vocabulary through a hands-on experience.

CDA Competency Standard:   

6.5a

• Candidate promotes children’s vocabulary development
  • a) Intentionally provides opportunities for children to learn new words

Materials: 

• thick colored paper
• tape
• pom poms
• tin foil
• feathers
• gems
• fabric
• hot glue

Procedure: 

• Create the sensory cards by cutting the paper into hearts and gluing the different materials onto them.
• Allow to dry
• Introduce the cards to the children and give new vocabulary words to describe the different textures.

**Always supervise infants during play.

Assessment: 

• Observe and record the children’s reaction to each of the cards. Take photos during the activity to put with your observation notes as well.
