Materials: 
  • Colored rice
  • googly eyes
  • empty bottle
Procedure: 
  1. Prepare for the activity by creating the sensory bottle. Put several scoops of colored rice and googly eyes into the empty bottle. 
  2. You can dye regular white rice by adding a teaspoon of vinegar and a few drops of food coloring to a cup of rice in a bag. Shake until all the grains are colored. Allow to dry on a pan overnight. 
  3. Secure the lid to the sensory bottle. 
  4. Place the infant in a comfortable place and introduce the monster sensory bottle. 
  5. As they are playing, introduce new vocabulary words that relate to the activity. ​

  1. Begin by finding a comfortable area and read Boo! with the child. Show the infant how to turn the pages. Be sure to use an expressive voice to keep the child interested. 
  2. Create the footprint memory craft by dipping the child’s foot in white paint. Press it onto the black paint. Allow to dry. Draw around the edge of the foot with chalk and add eyes and a mouth with the black marker. 
  3. Encourage the child to practice their page turning skills throughout the week with the same book. ​

  • Small candy pieces
  • tape
  • paper
  • scissors
  1. Have students help you create your candy markers. Be sure to focus on the math facts that they have been practicing that week/month.
  2. Cut small pieces of paper and have students write the matches (i.e. 2X2 and 4 would be a match). Tape these onto the bottom of the candy. 
  3. When all the matches are complete, have the students mix them up and play the classic game of Memory with their peers. ​

  1. Cut out several images of bats. Tape these on top of the black paper (this will eventually create a resist-image when removed). 
  2. Place the page along with paints in an appropriate area. 
  3. Encourage the child to finger paint
  4. When finished, show the child how to properly wash their hands. Talk with them about what you are doing during this process. 
  5. Allow the page to dry. Remove the taped bats. 
  6. Display the images around your classroom or place in their portfolio
**Edible paint can be used if desired

  4. Converse with the child until they tire of the activity.

  1. Prepare for the activity by cutting the thick paper into a pumpkin-like shape. Place it inside the Ziplock bag along with some orange paint.
  2. Seal the bag closed with the duct tape. 
  3. Introduce the bag to the child and encourage them to paint using their fingers.
  4. As they are working, practice new vocabulary words with them that are relevant to the activity. 
  5. When they are finished, remove the paper and allow to dry. 
  6. Add some vines to the pumpkin using the green paper.
  7. Display the child’s work. You can create a pumpkin patch on a bulletin board if desired. ​

  1. Prepare for the activity by creating the “pins”. Use the black marker to create faces on the rolls of toilet paper. Try to make them as ghost-like as possible. 
  2. Show the child how to roll using an underhand throw. You may want to practice using a ball first. 
  3. Set up the ghost pins on top of each other. 
  4. Create a line that is an appropriate distance away from the pins 
  5. Tell the child that they should only throw behind that line
  6. Allow the children to take turns bowling
