Mitten Matching Sight Words
Ten chilly fingers and ten chilly toes,
Need something warm to keep them from the cold.
Two warm mittens and boots lined with wool,
Will do the job nicely when playing in the snow.

Materials:
  • paper
  • markers/colored pencils
Procedure:
  • Have the children help create the mittens by cutting them out of paper and writing the different sight words on them.
  • Show the children how to lay the mittens face down and take turns playing the traditional memory game.
  • The children should practice saying the different sight words as they flip them over.
**This lesson is intended to be used with the children that have prior knowledge of the different sight words. This is not an introductory lesson.
Assessment:
  • Observe and record which sight words the children have mastered and which ones they are still struggling with. Be sure to go back and practice the ones they struggled with during small group or one-on-one instruction.

Snow Dough

Supplies:
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • ½ salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Cream of Tartar
  • 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil
  • 1 cup boiling water (rapidly boiling is a must!!)
  • Optional: glitter and scented oils
Directions:

Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add the oil. Immediately pour boiling water into the mix and stir (an adult should complete this step).

Let the mixture cool for a few minutes to let the ingredients bind better. Knead on a dusted cornstarch surface until smooth. If desired add glitter and scent and knead into dough. (colored glitter may tint the dough)
*If mixture is too sticky, add little more cornstarch.  If mixture is still too sticky pour into a pan and heat over warm heat until a dough ball is formed.
Let it cool and knead.
This is perfect gift for a child!!
Roll two balls of dough and place into a clear container.  Decorate the outside of the jar like a snowman.
