Supporting ADD

Do you care for a child who has Attention Deficit Disorder? Do you struggle with how best to support them?

As of 2013 we now recognize that there are three ways in which ADHD "presents" or affects different individuals. Those three ways include:
  • Predominantly Inattentive Presentation - This child finds it difficult to focus and becomes distracted easily, they forget parts of their daily routines, they struggle to stay organized or finish tasks, and they have difficulties following instructions or conversations.
  • Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation - A child with this presentation of ADHD will fidget and talk a lot, struggles to sit still for meals or projects at a table, they have issues with impulsivity and may grab things from others or interrupt others a lot, and in smaller children this may look like running and climbing constantly.
  • Combined Presentation - This simply means that the symptoms of the above two presentations are combined for that person.

Here are some ways that children with ADHD are impacted:
  • Hyperactivity
  • Paying attention
  • Impulsivity

Comment what you're excited to learn about in relation to Attention Deficit Disorders.

Here is mine:
I'd love to learn tips on how to keep their attention during activities. Do I need to be more interactive? Do I need to be more expressive? What can I do to help them?
