Strawberries
Plastic/butter knives

Have the children wash their hands while the plates and knives are passed around
Allow the children to cut their bananas into small rounds

Ice Cream Literacy

There are at least two different ways that this activity can be done in a classroom depending on what you want the children to be working on.

You will need to make ice cream cones from tan or brown paper (triangles).
You will need to make ice cream scoops from any variety of colors.
Here is one that you can do with matching uppercase and lowercase letters!

Ice Cube Art

Materials Needed:
Ice cube tray
Water
Food coloring
Toothpicks
Plastic wrap
Thick paper (cardstock)

Directions:
On the day before the painting activity:
Fill your ice cube tray with water and add food coloring to each cube slot
Stretch plastic wrap over the top of the tray tightly
Poke a toothpick into each cube slot

On the day of the painting activity:
Take the ice cube tray out of the freezer and remove the plastic wrap
Pass out paper to each child (or have a helper pass them out for you)
Let the children "paint" on their paper

Homemade Ice Cream

Materials Needed:
Gallon bag (1 per every 2/3 children)
Sandwich bag (1 per child)
Ice
Rock salt (about 1/4 cup per each gallon bag)
Packing tape
1 tablespoon of sugar (per child)
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla (per child)
1/2 cup of milk (per child)

Directions:
Fill the gallon bag halfway with ice and add the salt
Have the children add the sugar, vanilla, and milk in the sandwich bag
Seal the small sandwich bag with the packing tape to ensure that the ice cream and the ice mixture stay separate
Have the children put the sandwich bag inside the gallon bag and seal the gallon bag (you do not need to seal it with packing tape)
Let them shake it, roll it, twirl it, and keep moving it all around until it thickens up. This should take about 5-10 minutes
