Matching Kite Shapes Cut out different sizes of triangles from construction paper. Trace the triangles on a piece of paper and then add a tail to each one to resemble kites. Encourage the children to match the correct triangle to the correct kite. Kite Math Make a picture with kites on it. Add numbers to the kites and pipe cleaners for tails. Encourage the children to add the correct number of beads to each tail. Kite Sponge Painting Materials Needed: Sponges Paint Ribbon Glue Paper Paper plates Directions: Cut the sponges into kite shapes. Place the paint on the paper plates. Allow the children to put their sponge kites into the paint and stamp them on their paper. Allow the children to glue ribbon onto the bottom of their kites. Five Little Kites One little kite in the sky so blue, Along came another, then there were two. Two little kites flying high above me; Along came another, then there were three. Frog Activities! Paper Plate Frogs Provide paper plates, construction paper, googly eyes, glue and green paint for each child to make their own paper plate frog. Egg Carton Frog Have the children paint two pieces of egg carton. Sing songs while you let them dry. Encourage the children to add eyes and a tongue. Help each child to glue the two pieces of egg carton together to finish their egg carton frog. Frog Puzzle Print off pictures of frogs and lily pads off of the internet. Cut the frog into pieces, labeling each body part. Encourage the children to put the frog back together. Frog Songs! 5 Little Speckled Frogs Five little speckled frogs (Hold five fingers on top of your other arm) Sat on a speckled log Eating the most delicious bugs. Yum! Yum! I'm a little tadpole swimming in the pond. Waiting to be a frog, just like my mom. First I'll grow back legs, and then I'll get my front. Last my tail will fall off and then I'm ready to jump. Here are some fun zoo activities, songs, and books! Zoo Activities! Gorilla Hands Materials Needed: Black paper White paper White paint Paper plate Glue stick Directions: Cut out a large gorilla shaped hand from the black paper. Glue the cut-out hand print to the white construction paper. Press hand in white paint. Then, press painted hand onto black gorilla hand. Compare the differences in hand sizes. Zoo Puppets Puppets are a useful tool to help children express emotion. Let them create some puppets or give them some that have already been prepared. Ask them to create a story to act out with the puppets. Puppets help children act out social scenarios and express problems they have faced. Put Me in The Zoo Sensory Bin Materials Needed: Put Me in the Zoo book by Robert Lopshire Plastic tub Rainbow water beads Scoops and bowls Directions: Create the sensory bin by hydrating the water beads. You will want to let them soak overnight. Drain any excess water. Place various scoops and bowls in the sensory bin as well. Read Put Me in the Zoo to the children. Place the sensory bin in an appropriate place and encourage the children to play. As they are playing, talk with them about the story. Be sure to ask open-ended questions, instead of ‘yes’ or ‘no’ ones. You can talk about the different ‘spot’ colors they see in the sensory bin, making connection to the book. Do you like to buzz? Bee Activities! Bee Math This is a good project for teaching kids numbers and number order. Create your bee from construction paper and cut out numbers. Have the children identify what the number is and what order it goes in. Paper Plate Bumble Bee Materials Needed: Paper plate Paint (yellow and black) Construction paper (black and red) Paper (white) Pipe cleaners (black) Scissors Glue Paint brush Paint tray Wiggly eyes Directions: Allow the children to paint the paper plate yellow, allow it to dry. Once dry, allow the children to cut their paper plate in half. Allow them to paint black stripes on their yellow bee bodies, allow it to dry. Using the black construction paper, cut it in circles for the eyes. Using the red construction paper, cut it in a crescent shape for the mouth. Using the white paper, cut it in ovals for the wings. Twist the pipe cleaners into arches for antennae. Glue on all of the pieces, allow to dry. Bee Snack
Use pineapple, apple, blueberries, and chocolate chips to create a bee snack. It's been hot out! Here are some great activities to do with children with water in mind. Be sure to monitor them and provide appropriate materials for each age group. Infant Water Play Materials Needed: Cookie sheet Water Water Toys Directions: Fill the cookie sheet with a small amount of water. Place the water toys on the cookie sheet of water. Place the infant in front of the cookie sheet on tummy time or sitting up. Sit next to them to observe and talk about the water. Mixing Bowl Water Play Water play is a great sensory activity. Fill mixing bowls with water and provide children with egg beaters, whisks, and mixing spoons. You can also add glitter, ice, bits of paper, food coloring or a few drips of dish soap. This activity allows them to explore the scientific qualities of the objects in the water. They will see that when you mix the red water with the blue water it turns purple, they may also notice that you can not undo what they have done. But when they mix the pieces of paper into the purple water they can still extract the paper. This will help them learn that everything will react in a different way as well as the qualities that cause them to react the way they do. Water Xylophone Here is what you will need: Glasses, water, food coloring, spoon. 1. Fill your glasses with different amounts of water. 2. Put several drops of food coloring into each glass. 3. Using the back of the spoon have your children gently tap the top of each glass. 4. Have your children "play" different songs, like "Twinkle, Twinkle" or "Jingle Bells". Water Song

Camping is a great summer time activity. It's not very often that some children even get to go camping. Why not make it fun at school for them to "camp"? There are so many ideas to make it fun! Here are a few that we've found! Be sure to let us know how the children liked them! Camping Songs! Pine Cone Painting Materials Needed: Pine cones Paint Paper Directions: Allow the children to play around with their pine cones in the paint and create a masterpiece. Forest Noise Maker Materials Needed: Forked stick Materials to decorate (paint, string, etc.) Bells Beads Pipe cleaners Directions: Allow the children to decorate their sticks however they would like. Show them how to string their beads and bells on to the pipe cleaners. Attach the pipe cleaners around the forked part of their stick. Show them how to shake it around and make some great music. Forest Impression Stamping Materials Needed: Play dough Pine cones Sticks Leaves Rocks Directions: Allow the children to push their choice of nature items into the play dough and look at the impressions that it makes. Ice Cream Snack Materials: Waffles (1 waffle=4 children) Bananas Strawberries Plastic/butter knives Plates Directions: Have the children wash their hands while the plates and knives are passed around Allow the children to cut their bananas into small rounds Allow the children to cut their strawberry in half if they would like Pass out 1/4 of a waffle to each child Allow them to make their ice cream cone with the waffle as the cone, banana slices as the ice cream and strawberry as the topping Ice Cream Literacy There are at least two different ways that this activity can be done in a classroom depending on what you want the children to be working on. You will need to make ice cream cones from tan or brown paper (triangles). You will need to make ice cream scoops from any variety of colors. Here is one that you can do with matching uppercase and lowercase letters! Here is one you can do with matching letters to words. Ice Cube Art Materials Needed: Ice cube tray Water Food coloring Toothpicks Plastic wrap Thick paper (cardstock) Directions: On the day before the painting activity: Fill your ice cube tray with water and add food coloring to each cube slot Stretch plastic wrap over the top of the tray tightly Poke a toothpick into each cube slot Put into the freezer overnight On the day of the painting activity: Take the ice cube tray out of the freezer and remove the plastic wrap Pass out paper to each child (or have a helper pass them out for you) Let the children "paint" on their paper Homemade Ice Cream Materials Needed: Gallon bag (1 per every 2/3 children) Sandwich bag (1 per child) Ice Rock salt (about 1/4 cup per each gallon bag) Packing tape 1 tablespoon of sugar (per child) 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla (per child) 1/2 cup of milk (per child) Directions: Fill the gallon bag halfway with ice and add the salt Have the children add the sugar, vanilla, and milk in the sandwich bag Seal the small sandwich bag with the packing tape to ensure that the ice cream and the ice mixture stay separate Have the children put the sandwich bag inside the gallon bag and seal the gallon bag (you do not need to seal it with packing tape) Let them shake it, roll it, twirl it, and keep moving it all around until it thickens up. This should take about 5-10 minutes
