Zoo Puppets

Puppets are a useful tool to help children express emotion. Let them create some puppets or give them some that have already been prepared. Ask them to create a story to act out with the puppets. Puppets help children act out social scenarios and express problems they have faced.

Zoo Songs!
100 Zoo Animals Song

1 went to the zoo
And why did I see?
100 animals
Looking at me.

There were
10 tall giraffes, eating from the trees.
10 silly monkeys, scratching on their knees.
10 sleeping snakes, lying in the sun.
10 munching elephants, eating peanuts one by one.
10 leaping tigers, performing in the shows.
10 pink flamingos, standing on their toes.
10 grouchy bears, trying to get some sleep.
10 happy hippos, in the water deep.
10 roaring lions, walking two by two.
10 galloping zebras, all living in the zoo.
We Are Going To The Zoo

We are going to the zoo,
To the zoo, to the zoo.
We are going to the zoo,
Won't you join us too?

We'll see lions, tigers too,
Tigers too, tigers too.
We'll see lions, tigers too,
All at the zoo.

We will find some chimpanzees,
Cimpanzees, chimpanzees.
We will find some chimpanzees,
Swinging from the trees.

We will look for kangaroos,
Kangaroos, kangaroos.
We will look for kangaroos,
Hopping at the zoo.
Zoo Keeper Song

Down at the zoo
Early in the morning,
You can see the animals
Standing in a row.

You can see me feeding
One and then another.
I am the zoo keeper,
Watch me go!

Down at the zoo
Early in the morning,
You can see the animals
Standing in a row.

You can see me cleaning
One and then another.
I am the zoo keeper,
Watch me go!

It's the time of year that all of those bees are coming around! They are trying to find water on all of those beautiful plants. It's a great time to explain what bees do and how important they are in our lives even if they can be pesky.
Busy Bee Songs!
Picture
Buzzing Bees!

Bees, Bees, Bees, Bees
Buzzing in bushes and buzzing in trees
Buzzing around, wherever they please
There's nothing so sweet
As sweet as a honey bee.

A Bee is Buzzing Around the Room

A bee is buzzing round the room,

Buzz buzz, buzz buzz.
A bee is buzzing round the room,
Buzz buzz, buzz buzz.
He'll buzz around the room once more,
And then he'll buzz right out the door.
And we'll all be glad when
He is gone once more.
Bee Hive

Here is the bee hive (hold fist together)
But where are all the bees (hold up hands)
Hiding away where nobody sees

Here they came creeping out of the hive
1,2,3,4,5 (Hold up fingers one at a time)
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz   (You can also use both hands and have 10 bees.)
Do You Like To Buzz?

Do you like to buzz.
Are you covered all in fuzz?
Do you call a hive a home
In the garden where you roam?
Do you know how to make honey,
Are your stripes a little funny?
Do you like to buzz?
Bee Activities!

Water Play!

8/22/2018

It's been hot out! Here are some great activities to do with children with water in mind. Be sure to monitor them and provide appropriate materials for each age group.
Picture
Infant Water Play

Materials Needed:
Cookie sheet
Water
Water Toys

Directions:
Fill the cookie sheet with a small amount of water.
Place the water toys on the cookie sheet of water.
Place the infant in front of the cookie sheet on tummy time or sitting up.
Sit next to them to observe and talk about the water.

Mixing Bowl Water Play

Water play is a great sensory activity. Fill mixing bowls with water and provide children with egg beaters, whisks, and mixing spoons. You can also add glitter, ice, bits of paper, food coloring or a few drips of dish soap.

This activity allows them to explore the scientific qualities of the objects in the water. They will see that when you mix the red water with the blue water it turns purple, they may also notice that you can not undo what they have done.

But when they mix the pieces of paper into the purple water they can still extract the paper. This will help them learn that everything will react in a different way as well as the qualities that cause them to react the way they do.
Water Xylophone

Here is what you will need:  Glasses, water, food coloring, spoon.

1.  Fill your glasses with different amounts of water.
2.  Put several drops of food coloring into each glass.
3.  Using the back of the spoon have your children gently tap the top of each glass.
4.  Have your children "play" different songs, like "Twinkle, Twinkle" or "Jingle Bells".

Camping on a Hot Summer Day!

8/15/2018

Camping is a great summer time activity. It's not very often that some children even get to go camping. Why not make it fun at school for them to "camp"? There are so many ideas to make it fun! Here are a few that we've found! Be sure to let us know how the children liked them!
Camping Songs!
A-Camping We Will Go
(tune: Farmer in the Dell)

A-camping we will go,
A-camping we will go,
Hi-ho and off we go,
A-camping we will go.

More Verses:
First we pitch our tent
Next we chop some wood
We light the campfire now
We cook our dinner now
We tell fun stories now
It's time to go to sleep
I'm Going Camping!
(tune:  Twinkle Twinkle)

I'm going camping, yes sirree!
I'm going camping, won't you come with me?
First we'll pitch our tent on the ground,
Then make a fire as we all gather round.
I'm going camping, yes sirree!
I'm going camping, won't you come with me?

Next we'll cook on the open fire,
Then till stories till we all get tired.
When the stars are twinkling bright,
We'll sleep in our tents 'til the morning light.
I'm going camping, yes sirree!
I'm going camping, won't you come with me?

When we see the morning sun,
We'll wake right up 'cause the day's begun.
There's so much that we can do --
Fishing, swimming, hiking, too.
I'm going camping, yes sirree!
I'm going camping, won't you come with me?
Picture
Our Hiking Song
(tune:  I've Been Working on the Railroad)
I'm a first grade explorer
Exploring every day.
I'm a first grade explorer,
And I have a dream today.
When I'm working or I'm playing
And pretending what I'll be,
I'm a first grade explorer,
Exploring to be me!

Ice Cream Snack

Materials:
Waffles (1 waffle=4 children)
Bananas
Strawberries
Plastic/butter knives
Plates

Directions:
Have the children wash their hands while the plates and knives are passed around

Ice Cream Literacy

There are at least two different ways that this activity can be done in a classroom depending on what you want the children to be working on.

You will need to make ice cream cones from tan or brown paper (triangles).
You will need to make ice cream scoops from any variety of colors.
Here is one that you can do with matching uppercase and lowercase letters!
