  • Aluminum foil
  • Coins
  • Large plastic bin
  • water

Procedures:
  1. Lay out the materials in an appropriate area for creating
  2. Invite students to make a boat. Challenge them to make it strong enough to hold several pennies.
  3. When they are finished, test the boats in the water.
  4. Allow them to reconstruct their boats to be stronger and test again.
  5. When finished, you can have a conversation about what makes a boat able to withstand more weight.

  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Paper   

Procedure:
​
  1. Find a comfortable spot in the classroom to sing  to the child.
  2. After singing with the child, you can begin the memory craft. Paint the child’s foot and press it down on the paper. This will act as the base of the boat. Add a sail, sun and water to the picture using the paintbrush. Allow to dry.
  3. Display the boats around the classroom. 

“Row, Row, Row Your Boat”
Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.

Procedure:
  1. Lay out the materials in an appropriate area
  2. Invite the child to make train tracks with you
  3. Talk with the child during the activity, introducing new vocabulary words and making connections to previously learned information

Marbled Hot Air Balloons

  • Hot air balloon template
  • Paint
  • Paper
  • String
  • Glue
  • Marbles
  • Container with removable lid
  • Duct tape
Procedure:
  1. Cut a piece of paper into the shape of a hot air balloon using the template provided. Place the paper, desired paint colors, and marbles into the container. Close the lid and secure with duct tape to prevent the child from opening it.
  2. Introduce the container to the child and encourage them to shake it.
  3. After a few minutes, remove the paper from the container and allow it to dry.
  4. Glue the dried hot air balloon on a piece of paper. Cut string into 2 small pieces and glue on the paper (these will act as the ropes). Cut a small piece of paper and glue below the sting (this will act as the basket).

  • toy cars
  • tape
  • paper
  • markers

Procedure: 
  1. Cut paper into small circles. Write letters onto these circles and tape into the top of the cars.
  2. Create “parking spaces” with different letters onto a piece of paper using a marker
  3. Invite students to drive the cars into the parking space that corresponds with the letter on top of the car.
 
**This lesson can be adapted for school-age students by using sight words instead of letters

Materials:
  • large plastic bin
  • water
  • blue food coloring
  • pool noodle
  • straws
  • foam sheets
  • scissors   

Procedure:
  1. Create the boats that will go in the sensory bin by cutting the pool noodle into small circles. Cut the straws into 3 to 4 inch pieces. Cut the foam sheets into triangles. Place the straws into the noodle. Cut small holes into the foam triangles and place them on the straws to act as the sail.
  2. Fill the bin with water. Add a few drops of blue food coloring. Add the noodle boats.
  3. Introduce the bin to the child. Play with them while introducing new vocabulary words.    
 **Always monitor young children around water
