Zoo Puppets

Puppets are a useful tool to help children express emotion. Let them create some puppets or give them some that have already been prepared. Ask them to create a story to act out with the puppets. Puppets help children act out social scenarios and express problems they have faced.

Put Me in The Zoo Sensory Bin

Materials Needed:
Put Me in the Zoo book by Robert Lopshire
Plastic tub
Rainbow water beads
Scoops and bowls

Directions:
Create the sensory bin by hydrating the water beads. You will want to let them soak overnight. Drain any excess water. Place various scoops and bowls in the sensory bin as well.
Read Put Me in the Zoo to the children.
Place the sensory bin in an appropriate place and encourage the children to play.
As they are playing, talk with them about the story. Be sure to ask open-ended questions, instead of ‘yes’ or ‘no’ ones. You can talk about the different ‘spot’ colors they see in the sensory bin, making connection to the book.

Zoo Songs!
100 Zoo Animals Song

1 went to the zoo
And why did I see?
100 animals
Looking at me.

There were
10 tall giraffes, eating from the trees.
10 silly monkeys, scratching on their knees.
10 sleeping snakes, lying in the sun.
10 munching elephants, eating peanuts one by one.
10 leaping tigers, performing in the shows.
10 pink flamingos, standing on their toes.
10 grouchy bears, trying to get some sleep.
10 happy hippos, in the water deep.
10 roaring lions, walking two by two.
10 galloping zebras, all living in the zoo.
We Are Going To The Zoo

We are going to the zoo,
To the zoo, to the zoo.
We are going to the zoo,
Won't you join us too?

We'll see lions, tigers too,
Tigers too, tigers too.
We'll see lions, tigers too,
All at the zoo.

We will find some chimpanzees,
Cimpanzees, chimpanzees.
We will find some chimpanzees,
Swinging from the trees.

We will look for kangaroos,
Kangaroos, kangaroos.
We will look for kangaroos,
Hopping at the zoo.
Zoo Keeper Song

Down at the zoo
Early in the morning,
You can see the animals
Standing in a row.

You can see me feeding
One and then another.
I am the zoo keeper,
Watch me go!

Down at the zoo
Early in the morning,
You can see the animals
Standing in a row.

You can see me cleaning
One and then another.
I am the zoo keeper,
Watch me go!
