Here are some fun zoo activities, songs, and books! Zoo Activities! Gorilla Hands Materials Needed: Black paper White paper White paint Paper plate Glue stick Directions: Cut out a large gorilla shaped hand from the black paper. Glue the cut-out hand print to the white construction paper. Press hand in white paint. Then, press painted hand onto black gorilla hand. Compare the differences in hand sizes. Zoo Puppets Puppets are a useful tool to help children express emotion. Let them create some puppets or give them some that have already been prepared. Ask them to create a story to act out with the puppets. Puppets help children act out social scenarios and express problems they have faced. Put Me in The Zoo Sensory Bin Materials Needed: Put Me in the Zoo book by Robert Lopshire Plastic tub Rainbow water beads Scoops and bowls Directions: Create the sensory bin by hydrating the water beads. You will want to let them soak overnight. Drain any excess water. Place various scoops and bowls in the sensory bin as well. Read Put Me in the Zoo to the children. Place the sensory bin in an appropriate place and encourage the children to play. As they are playing, talk with them about the story. Be sure to ask open-ended questions, instead of ‘yes’ or ‘no’ ones. You can talk about the different ‘spot’ colors they see in the sensory bin, making connection to the book.
