Each week I'll give you 2 to 3 (sometimes more!) activities, books, crafts, or songs that you can do with each letter! This week is the letter I! Items that could go in a I Mystery box! ice iceberg ice cream cone ice cube tray ice pack insect instrument Ice Cube I's Materials Needed: Ice cube tray Water Food coloring Toothpicks Plastic wrap I's cut from card stock (or thick paper) Directions: On the day before the painting activity: Fill your ice cube tray with water and add food coloring to each cube slot Stretch plastic wrap over the top of the tray tightly Poke a toothpick into each cube slot Put into the freezer overnight On the day of the painting activity: Take the ice cube tray out of the freezer and remove the plastic wrap Pass out I's to each child (or have a helper pass them out for you) Let the children "paint" on their I's Inkblot Art Materials Needed: Pink paint Black ink White cardstock Straw Japanese Celebrations: Cherry Blossoms, Lanterns and Stars! book by Betty Reynolds Directions: Read the book Japanese Celebrations: Cherry Blossoms, Lanterns and Stars! by Betty Reynolds Invite the children to create their own cherry blossom artwork Show the children that they will place a bubble of ink at the bottom of their piece of paper They will use their straw to blow on the ink bubble to create branches of a tree The children will continue this until they have the desired branches they want After the ink has dried, the children will dip their fingers in the pink paint They will place dots onto the branches of their tree as cherry blossoms Ice Cream Dough Materials Needed: 3 cups of baking soda 3 teaspoons of hair conditioner 1 Kool-aid package Large bin Ice cream cones Sprinkles Ice cream scoops Ice cream cups Directions: Mix the baking soda and the conditioner together Add in the Kool-aid package Place the dough in a large bin along with the ice cream cones, sprinkles, scoops, and cups Place the bin in an appropriate area for the children to explore
